Last week in Central Pennsylvania, we experienced our first significant snowfall since October. While I can’t speak for everyone, that brief taste of winter was more than enough for me. I’m ready to welcome spring with open arms.
Ah, spring – the daffodils peeking through the warming soil, trees stirring to life as their roots draw up water, the inevitable flush of chickweed (because every season has its challenges), and, of course, seeds. Oh, so many seeds! For me, seeds have become the highlight of spring. From the stunning photography in catalogs to the colorful packets filled with promise, each one holds the anticipation of abundant gardens bursting with local fruits and vegetables.
Then, there are the flower seeds – a painter’s palette of colors waiting to bloom. They bring life to our gardens, attracting pollinators and wildlife, and their blossoms brighten our homes, gracing our dinner tables and workspaces with joy.
As gardeners, we cherish them all. But with limited space and time, we’re forced to make difficult choices. Every growing season brings its own challenges—preparing garden beds, managing pests and diseases, and outsmarting wildlife (those mischievous groundhogs!)—yet we persevere. Why? Because we love the feel of soil between our fingers and toes, the satisfaction of a freshly weeded garden bed, and the joy of sharing our harvest with friends and family.
Winter, as always, will give way to spring. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait to experience the magic of seeds. You can place your orders now, visit your favorite stores, and even start seeds indoors. Why not share a little of that garden joy with a friend? After all, the promise of spring is already here—waiting for us in the seeds.
